Arboretum
This summer, we wanted to experiment with Digital Flash Photography when shooting flowers. Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle was an ideal place in the Summer with blooming Rhododendrons and Azalea. Previously when working with slides, we were almost always dependening on natural light only. With digital, we could experiment more without the overhead of extra film processing costs and could also get instant feedback.

For almost all the shots in this gallery, we used a combination of natural light and fill-flash. Our goal was to learn using flash to eliminate harsh shadows of mid-day sun without losing the depth in the resulting image. This experiment helped us understand more about using flash and controlling the background.
